Dear Friends y Amigos

Hello to our faithful and future TBLA contributors!

The Tomales Bay Library Association (TBLA) board meets every month. Our favorite meeting is when we get together and discuss which TBLA sponsored programs we should feature in our annual appeal letter. We were starting to get giddy then suddenly realized that nothing like these events ever took place in the libraries of our childhood. Thankfully, no stern-faced librarians remind us to keep quiet, or send us off alone to search card catalogs to complete school projects.

Libraries without Borders

Our community and our spaces are porous: we meet and learn in “libraries without borders.” Here all are welcome, the outside comes to the inside, and art created by local artists, a new MCFL program, moves on and off the library walls into patrons’ homes. We meet in knitting and mending circles, for coffee, or to explore mushrooms. Our children gather to learn about nature and science from staff at the Point Reyes National Seashore.

Caregivers and families seek solace and healing at the mobile herb garden. The same warmth and curiosity are found in our local public-school libraries, which feature bilingual books purchased with TBLA funds. As you have so many times before, we humbly ask you to support these important programs.

 La Asociación de la Biblioteca de Tomales Bay se reúne cada mes. Nuestra junta favorita es cuando nos juntamos y discutimos cuales patrocinadores de la TBLA deberíamos incluir en nuestra letra anual. Empezamos a sentirnos vertiginosos luego vimos que nada como estos eventos habían tomado lugar en las bibliotecas de nuestra niñez. Por suerte, ninguna bibliotecaria de cara seria nos dice que mantengamos el sonido bajo o nos manda solos a buscar catálogos de cartas para completar proyectos escolares.

Bibliotecas sin Fronteras

Nuestra comunidad y espacios son porosos; nos reunimos y aprendemos en “Bibliotecas sin fronteras”. Todos son bienvenidos, el afuera viene hacia adentro, y el arte creados por artistas locales, un nuevo programa de MCFL, sigue adelante y de la paredes de la biblioteca hacia la casa los hogares de patrocinadores. Nos reunimos en círculos de tejer y remendar, para café, o explorar hongos. Nuestros niños se reúnen para aprender de naturaleza y ciencia del personal de Point Reyes National Seashore.

Cuidadores y familias buscan curación y soledad en el jardín herbal móvil. La misma curiosidad y aprecio se encuentra en nuestras bibliotecas locales estudiantiles que incluye libros bilingües comprados por fondos de TBLA. Como ya han hecho tanto en el pasado, les preguntamos con humildad que apoyen estos programas importantes.
